HERE'S SOME SPEC ON EVERYTHING i'M GOING TO GET . I'm really trying to keep my budget under $400.00. Basically what I'm doing is upgrading the computer I have with a new Mob,cpu, video card, case, and memory. heres my specs tell me what you think.

1)40 gig maxtor hard drive(already have in computer)
2)asus p4s800 sis648fx chipset socket 478( 533, 800fsb)
3)pentium 2.4 or 2.8 ghz (800fsb)
4)nVidia Geforce fx5700 128mb video card( we're not big gamers but we like to play some, {need for speed}, {tony hawk}
5)512 mb memory from corsair
6} linkwood black/silver atx midtower 400w supply

This processor has good reviews on newegg. It's going to be my first build and I've been reading alot on overclocking and I'm thinking about doing it to learn something new and maybe I'll oc it a little(2.4 @ 2.7 ) but i dont know if I'll leave it, if done right is it pretty safe for your computer, or can you mess up everything. Give me some ideas on this cpu and some of the other items going in my computer. this computer is for my family and my brothers are light gamers( need for speed, tony hawk). what do you think.

I would recommend the Abit IS7 over the SIS board. You'll really enjoy this one especially on features and stability. The sound is SUPERB!

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Also consider AMD XP2500+ Mobile
This baby overclocks easy to 3200+, mine 2600+ mobile overckloks to 2400MHz.
A Abit NF7 mobo and corsair would make a great combination.

Toms Hardware Site is a joke !
Looks like intel spent more on bribing reviewers to cover up it aint that great than they did in R&D, you know what im talking about Tom !

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100

Not bad, but you could probably get into a nicer Athlon XP system for those slim dollars.

Not big gamers? If you're not improving your knowledge of computers or gaming what is there?!

I'm so lost.
