is this good for gaming?

Solution
depends what sort of advice are you looking for.

only good thing a z77 board will have when you pair it with a non-K, non-OCable cpu is the SLI/CF support. otherwise, you can save up a good deal going with a H77 board for around $50 less.

HT in an i7 rarely get any massive gains in games. few see a 15% boost from it. whether that's worth it is up to you, but i'd look into a 3570K, or better yet, a 4670K+z87, saving yourself money. you can save up more going for a $170-180 non-K i5 like the 4430 if you're seriously not going to OC.

spending that much on RAM solely for gaming is a big no-no. 2x4gb ddr3-1600/1866 are more than plenty and save up even more of your cash.

if you followed my advice above, you may have saved up quite a bit...

how about this ?

430W is cutting it very close for your possible. it'll run, but a little more headroom can't hurt. get a 750W psu if you're going run it SLI/CF.
not sure if the 280x has fallen in price as they're currently low in stocks & high in price last i checked a few days back ($400+)
maybe add a 120gb ssd?
