I am in the process of making a build and was wondering if a EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 (Maxwell) Dual Card (SLI) is good for gaming.

You are much better off with a single GTX 980.
Check out the GPU Manufacturer Tier List on the bottom right of this reply. if you want to compare gpu models/manufacturers.
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend SLI, too much heat and too much power, getting one card is usually the best choice unless you want to run 4 TITAN's that's a whole different case.
Yes, I'd say SLI is only worth getting for top-end builds (Dual 980 Tis etc.) Getting one high-end card (Such as a 980) is indeed a better idea than getting 2 lower-end cards. This is simply because SLI produces more heat and can be less stable. For them dual 980 Ti users, it's their only choice to get the performance they want. 😀
