Is this gtx 580 broken?

I bought a used gtx 580 from some dude online. My goal is to run it with my already owned gtx 580 and run SLI. First i tryd setting it up with SLI and my computer could find it but was expericing bsod's and problems making windows accept the new card.. after switching to the pcie slots referenced by the manual the bsods stopped but i still couldnt make it run and all i got was error code 32 in devices on the new card.

Now i gave up trying to get SLI working, and removed my primary working card and put only the "new" card in to see if it even worked.. during the boot it was crazy with lines and random pattern glitches .. once in windows i was stuck running 640x480 in 8bit .. and it was saying the same stuff in devices about this single card as before...

I tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalled them etc.

Something worth mentioning is that the new card looks like its been overclocked because se it has a mount plate still on it from some kinda custom cooling possibly previous water cooling. Also i think its been "baked" because the warrany stickers been scratched off the bottom etc...

Is this a lost case =/?

Hi,
You replaced a working 580 and the one you bought gives you problems: yes it is defective. Not much to do but ask the guy for a refund. If you are getting artifacts and the warranty sticker is scratch. The previous owner has probably fiddle with it.
