Is it illegal for a isp to not let you touch any of the router settings without a tech there my freind just got cable internet installed and he is livid that he can't change any of the networking settings period

does seem a bit, odd. i have cable, the modem is theirs, but i can play about with the settings until it doesn't work and then reset it and they don't seem to mind.

Sounds like bs to me. I have att u-verse and pop in there every one in awhile. Nothing really for me to change however, if there was I would certainly do it.

they do, he wanted to just buy it from them but they refused and he used to do a lot of networking and server stuff at his old place and now he cant even change the dang password or even the name of the network and it could be days before a tech gets there and it says nonthing bout that in the contract
