Is this laptop good for gaming?

Yes you can play most games on medium to high settings.

Medium to high on a 720m with a dual core ULV chip? If you keep it at 1024x768 then...maybe? Not going to be at a constant framerate either...

I doubt you'll get anything better on that price range although.

Yes modern titles like BF4 maybe low settings but otherwise medium on 30fps will be ok.

I don't know the resolution of the laptop screen though....guessing its 1080p?

Maximum supported resolution for that is 1366x768, and he can set games for a lower resolution anyway. If it was a 1080p screen, it would've been worse, so it's not too bad.

I found a pair of laptops in that price range with GT740m graphics which I'd assume is slightly more capable, at the expense of a presumably slightly slower i5 processor.

The Toshiba, as usual, would be awesome for the price. If only it wasn't a Toshiba...
I'm just biased against them, so don't mind me anyway, they might have gotten better......maybe ;P

Can't find anything about Medion, but it looks to be some kind of sub-brand. If I had to take a stab in the dark, I'd say they're slightly lower than Acer in quality terms, so they should be ok-ish. Wouldn't trust them anyway, being literally an almost unknown brand (at least, I think).
