I recently purchased this laptop ASUS ZX53VW 15.6" Gaming Laptop, NVIDIA, GTX 960M 4GB, FHD, Intel Core i5-6300HQ, 8GB DDR4, 512GB SSD

Does anyone know if I can upgrade the RAM to 16GB. Also what steps do I take to purchase the right ram. Will any DDR4 RAM work? Or is there special RAM for laptops.

Thanks in advance

according to this site http://techforpennies.com/asus-zx53vw-gaming-notebook-review/ you should be able to add up to a 16GB module for a total of 24GB, but a 8GB for a total 16GB should be fine for gaming. So Yes

As for ram speed, I would suggest you to get the same speed as the onboard RAM 2133MHz.
Other speeds will probably also work as the computer should adjust the speed of both to the slowest one. But I always like to use the same kind for both modules. Laptop RAM is called SODIMM RAM like this http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/corsair-memory-8gb-1x8gb-ddr4-sodimm-2133mhz-c15-memory-kit-cmso8gx4m1a2133c15
