I was wondering how long before i will have to replace a ASUS P8Z77 V-LK
MB i bought from a friend used.
He sold me his MB and CPU(i5 3570K) for a super low price.?
So with gaming how long will i be able to play games before this MB/CPU combo\become too old?
Right now i can game on any newer games and get great fps even with maxed settings.
I am using a evga gtx 980 classified overclocked to 1575mhz on the core clock.

Sure that board and cpu is a bit older now but its giving you great service and as you said your getting good performance with games ect. But your going to hear people rave and rant SKYLAKE HASWELL I5 4690 K and so on.. You can expect a good 2 plus yrs maybe 4 or more of good service still as long as the other hardware is current so I would say great buy and enjoy it.

Happy to hear 2 years! that is more than i thought originally.
I plan on buying a MSI Mb and current gen CPU next year so to hear that i am good to go with what i have for now is real good news!
Just could not pass on my friends offer to sell me both MB and CPU for $100, so i figured why the hell not? LOL
Thanks! eric

Daaang. That's not a bad deal at all.

yeah but keep in mind he is a good friend from years ago.
i looked online and even used the MB goes for $85 and the CPU is $175
whats good is i know the guy and he did not stress the cpu or do anything to damage these components.

I had a friend of mine move, and he decided to sell off his desktop that he had just built - gave it to me for $400. Gigabyte Z97-Gaming 5, XFX R9-280, i5-4670k, Silverstone Strider Gold 750 modular PSU, 1tb WD black drive, case. Kept everything but the case, put it in my Antec which is a nicer looking case. It's a hell of a machine. Still, I'm very tempted to sell it and pick up a different machine.

They have some HP Z800 workstations for surprisingly good prices. Xeon Hex-cores can be had for about $80 each. My geekbench on the i5-4670k is about 13,000, I figure the geekbench for dual X5650's would be somewhere around 38,000. Yes, they're pretty beastly machines.

it is good to have friends right? LOL😀
