Is this network setup possible?

Would it work if I used a old router, connected it to the modem. Then used a Netgear EXT 7000 as a access point, and finally used a super expensive Asus RT87U as a extender/media bridge, and connected my pc to the asus?

Would this be any faster than just using the Asus as the router?

Possible - yes.
Worth doing no. The Asus is a ac1750mb/s router and the Netgear is a ac1300 so I would just use the old router and the asus as the wifi/accesspoint if you get a strong enough signal from it to get full speed.

edited as I later discovered the netgear is ac1300 and not 1900 has thought.

You'd be better off getting some Cisco equipment like a 2800 series router and a catalyst series switch to do what you're asking.
