Is this overclock okay?

I overclocked my old as hell Core 2 Duo E4500 from 2.20GHz to 2.5GHz to make it better a bit. Overclocked on an MS-7379's BIOS. Stress tested it with MSI kombustor's CPU "burner" (I know it's not as good for CPUs, don't judge me plz) and I got a max of 76 celsius on core "0" and 77 on core 1 (Impossible, because counting is supposed to start from 1, but what evz, that's what my monitoring software said). Is it okay or I'll have to overclock it back to 2.420GHz (it was my previous overclock) which was more than stable? Yes, I did try to overclock it more by the way but it would just boot, stop recognizing my SSD that has my operating system, and won't recognize it until I turn it down a notch.

As long as it's stable then that's fine. Those temps are still safe, although on the upper echelon of what I'd want, so it seems fine to me.

EDIT: Also, most programs will start counting from 0. Core 0 is Core 1, Core 1 is Core 2, etc. So, that's not an issue either.

With such an old chipset, have you even run a benchmark to see if you notice any difference? I don't see how you could really notice the difference in any performance with only a 300MHz overclock. No judging here - I still have an E8400 built in 2009 and had it overclocked to 4.5GHz at one time. But I returned it to stock 3.0GHz years ago as a general use PC after it started showing its age in newer games and programs. It's still perfectly fine as a general use PC including Office programs. I have a GTX 275 stuffed in it and also use it as my retro gamer for 2005-2010 era games like Half Life 2, FEAR 2, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and Left For Dead 2.

With that said, those temps are fine if they are accurate. You don't mention if you have an aftermarket cooler. If you are running on the stock cooler, you can decrease that heat and possibly get a little more overclock out of it. It all depends on how good your chip is and how good your motherboard is for overclocking. Also you might find this C2D overclocking guide handy:

I didn't run ANY benchmarks when I probably should have. It is definitely an aftermarket cooler, but I don't have any idea what's the name of it. And the sticker kinda got rekt in the front. I can look in the back, but when I swapped out the thermal paste last time I kinda broke the mount. Did manage to repair it with the good old DIY mounting method that will last a few years at best. Works for now I guess.
