Is this PC build ok at a $1000 budget?

I'm relatively new to building PC's but I have been doing a lot of research and this is my parts list so far.

Mob:
MSI Pro Solution Intel Z170A LGA 1151 DDR4 USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard (Z170A SLI)

CPU:
Intel Boxed Core I7-6700 FC-LGA14C 3.40 GHz 8 M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 BX80662I76700

GPU:
MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING 4G

Memory:
HyperX Savage 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 RAM (Desktop Memory) CL15 XMP Black DIMM (288-Pin) HX430C15SB2K2/16

Hard Drive:
Seagate 2TB Desktop Gaming SSHD

Power supply:
Sentey MBP750-HM Power Supply, 750 watts

Case:
Corsair Carbide Series 100R Silent Edition

This build will mostly be used with gaming but I also use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator a lot.
My questions are... Are these parts compatible? Are there better options for me at this price?

Do you have a cheaper memory in mind? I was first looking at the GTX 1060 but I thought it was out of my price range and I couldn't find it anywhere in stock. Thanks for the advice though I'll think upgrading to the gtx 970 and getting cheaper memory.

the build u have is fine maybe get a bit cheaper ram an look for the nvidia 1060 ore the 1070 to make if future proof

the 1060 or RX 480 have made the 970 a bad purchase decision. In next one or two weeks the inventory should pick up on 1060/480 and prices will be closer to msrp of around $250

A 550W Qualiy PSU will easily do.

No need for a 970, go for 1060/rx480

I don't know where you live, but 2x8GB DDR4 2400MHz for around 50$ will do the job

GTX 1060 are showing here and there for the MSRP and I've seen EVGA SC in stock for 250 after 10$ rebate.
Do your self a favor, be patient and hunt the 1060 for MSRP - took me about 3 weeks to find my 1070, but was totally worth it.
unless you are getting the 970 for 170$ or less

Or a custom RX480, which is a low-priced but decent card, and supports X-fire, giving you the option to upgrade your system with another in the future should you ever wish to, unlike the 1060 that doesn't support sli. It's worth considering a better quality psu, same wattage or less, on sale or fairly priced. Last, an I7-6700K at the moment is going for $319 on Amazon, vs $290 for the 6700, not bad for $29 extra.

A decent custom RX 480 from sapphire cost 260$ MSRP and will ship in some feature.
Multi GPU is just not worth it - too much heat, too much power, not to mention games support and other glitches.
So instead in a couple of years you just buy a new GPU for the same price that will be 50-80% as the one you buy now.
And BTW, SLI is not needed for current/older games with 1060, and future titles may support multi gpu through DX12 or Vulcan. that's the main reason nvidia stopped supporting 3 and 4 way sli and does not bother with SLI for mid range cards. Lets face the truth, they are not going to be used with 4K monitors, and those who have 700-1200 to spend on monitor, will just buy 1080 or similar.

Nah, it's just a matter of preference. Personally I think now that Fin-fet is in the picture, crossfire and sli support will only improve. Even if I didn't end up using SLI, if I was going with an nVidia card. not having the option would be a deal-breaker. But it's also worth taking the impressive gains of the 480 in some games in Vulkan and DX12 over Pascal into account. The 480 is just a better, more flexible overall choice and value, imho anyhow.

Agree it is kinda nice to finally see a 6700K going for a tad under msrp @ Amazon (non-Prime price btw).

Fin-fet has no impact on SLI/CF functionality. It is purely SW optimization which is not always done.
There are 3 games out there that RX 480 is slightly better than GTX 1060 another two where they are equal and a ton of games where GTX 1060 is much faster. Not to mention shadow play and other bonuses.
So while DX12 and Vulcan seems to be more beneficial to AMD cards right now, I have not seen any graphical improvement over DX11/OpenGL in those games. So basically I see no reason to worry about it as nvidia owner. Since nvidia owns majority of market share, game devs will optimize their games for those cards as well. And nvidia will come out with some driver improvement/optimization eventually.
RX 480 makes sense at 200$, but AIB cards for the 8GB are 250 and up. At that price there are custom GTX 1060 cards from all vendors.
See no point in more power hungry, less overclockable card at higher price point for a doubtful feature like CF support.
Multi GPU is used on ~15% of machines and most of them are high end. Going SLI/CF with budget-mid setup is not rational. you need expensive PSU, more expensive MB and you probably need and expensive monitor to have a need for more than single card that provides decent 1440p gaming.
Also the DX12/Vulcan - it will take years until there will be significant amount of games using it - so couldn't care less.

I'd respectfully disagree in re to the promise and potential Vulkan holds for the near future, and DX12 as well to some extent. Somehow I'm not surprised re the Fudzilla article re NV being on track to launch Volta on Fin-fet as early as May of 2017 at their GTC event. Curious to see what kind of changes are made with it, or whether Async Compute Engines will finally be incorporated into the design.

I do like the competition - but my hopes fell flat ... RX 480 did not affect the GTX 1070 pricing and i was forced to pay 440$ (before shipping and taxes).
BTW, the amazon best sellers ... have you noticed that being available for a month, there are only 2 RX 480 cards on that page ... and 3rd place is just released GTX 1060.
Anyway, unfortunately seems like nvidia will have the lion share of the market anyway.
