I'm planning to run COD/GTA V/Battlefield/other steam games on high settings

Want good graphics with no lag.

Would this be something that would work?

Could still spend a few hundred dollars. Any recommendations that would decrease lag and boost up speed would be appreciated!

The motherboard and CPU might be considered over the top. If you save on the motherboard and spend a little more could you squeeze in a 980Ti, big jump up on the 980 and would be great to your monitor.

An SSD would also be a great addition but it won't help fps

Same price, much better Tier 1 PSU. Way better GPU, that will run games 1440p 60fps. Asus motherboard is way overpriced. Cheaper (still great tier 1) motherboard.
I'm highly recommend to add 250gb SSD to this build, it will highly improve your overall general use experience. This one is a great choice, Tom's pick for June 2015 -
