Is this possible?........ Laptop LCD

Is it possible to take a LCD screen of a laptop and
connect it to a desktop computer? I want to be able to
use a lcd and a video monitor at the same time or
switch inbetween either screen. There is a valid
reason for doing this. Im costum building a special
case.

Also if that wont work could some1 tell me whats the smallest and THINEST LCD that I could get and where.

It's possible, at leats on some laptops. Did it when my dad brought in his laptop from work (now they use supercomputers w/ 6 18" LCD screens a piece, but anyway) check for any type of connectors, and search on teh internet....I forgot how to do it, but know it's possible.

Is it possible yes! Is it practical no! The trick to using a laptop screen and a stand alone video card is converting the analog or the DVI signal to the parallel data the laptop screen requires. Since most every laptop design is slightly different you would need to have the laptop panel input schematics then build an analog or DVI to laptop panel converter. Not a simple thing to do. You are better off purchasing a stand alone LCD monitor IMHO.

Yeah I've tried this without success. Wanted to build an old LCD display into a servers case. Basically the server didn't need a monitor, but it would of been nice to have the facility of a visual status check, and occasional configuration changes without hauling a screen across the room.

Would of needed some serious custom electronics to interface the screen I had to the server, not worth the effort.
