Is this PSU too much wattage and should I choose Hybrid or Modular?

I am thinking about adding a 950W PSU to to power all of this, I did a calculator considering dual GPUs and adding lots of potential extras and it came out as 883W, so i rounded up to 950W.
My main 2 questions are:

1. Is 950W a problem (too powerful and will melt everything if I only use 700W to begin with/ increadeably expensive or something funny like that)?
2. Should I get a hybrid or modular PSU?

I am planning a fresh build and here are the components I have selected so far:
CASE: Obsidian 750D
MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme9
GPU: AMD HD 9790 GHz DD Edition
CPU: AMD FX-8350
RAM: 16GB kit (8GBx2) which I may double later on, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-14900 memory module

There is no such thing as too much power, in that the components will only draw as much power as they need. Nothing will happen if you use too powerful a power supply.

A modular power supply is good for cable management, since you would only plug in the cables you needed. It's a matter of preference as to whether you get a modular power supply or not.

You'll only have to worry about something melting if you're buying a cheap, poorly made, low quality PSU. I would go with a modular PSU cable management is a whole lot easier.

That being said, I'm no expert on AMD products, but from what I've read on the forums, a 8350 pulls around 300w, and the 7970 would probably be around 300-350w. If you get a reputable brand with say... 850w, you should be ok.

Your PSU should match the maximum amount that your system will draw, plus a moderate buffer.

Although nothing bad will happen to your system by using a PSU having excessive capacity, when your system draws less power (when idling, for example) an over-capacity PSU operates less efficiently, wasting energy, and generating dis-proportionately more heat than is necessary. The bigger PSU probably costs more too.

The 8350 has a TDP of 125W, the 7970, 250W another 100W for the motherboard and peripherals (being very generous with headroom). I wouldn't think more than 650W would be needed. Something like the XFX Core Edition PRO650W should perform nicely I would think

Get a good cooler for that CPU.
