Is this RAM compatible with ASUS Sabertooth 990FX?

Hello, I am building my first rig and am planning to use...

NZXT Hades Mid-Tower Case
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX
AMD FX 8120
MSI Radeon HD 6950 Twin Frozr II 2GB x2 (in Crossfire)
1000 watt Cougar CMX 1000
Corsair H60 liquid cooler

plus ssd and hard drive. My problem is that I am completely new to this and cant seem to figure out if this RAM will be compatible. I have been looking at two particular sets...

The Corsair say... "This part delivers outstanding performance in the latest generation of dual-channel DDR3-based motherboards. It has been tested extensively in multiple DDR3 motherboards to ensure compatibility and performance at its rated speed.", but does not say that it is "designed for the new intel stuff." like most I have looked at, and none of them say whether they are AMD optimized at all. I know that certain memory modules dont play well with the AMD chipsets, and dont want to go through the hassle.

I have gone to Crucial's website and by their compatibility chart those are compatible, but they are not listed in the ASUS.pdf.

As for the Corsair ones, I have looked at the ASUS compatibility .pdf file and it does not have this particular model number, but it does have this exact brand. I also know that the .pdf file isnt "the bible" when it comes to choosing RAM. Also I'm wondering if I can/should use a cooler for the north bridge as well, and if so if one could be recommended. If someone could help me out a bit I would be extremely grateful. Thank you in advance.

Im an AMD guy for the last 15 years, however having said that, you should build around the Sandy Bridge architecture. AMD dropped the ball as far as performance goes with the Bulldozer architecture. Good place to start with this is a 2500k and a good z68 mobo combo.

G Skill is also a very good and versatile maker of RAM. Cheaper than Crucial as well and lower failure rates. So if you stick with AMD id go G Skill all the way.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately everything but the RAM is already ordered. My only problem with G Skill is that tigerdirect does not sell them, and newegg is out of stock of the ones that I need.

I'm in the process of getting together my first build too. Don't you feel a little nervous ordering an H60 and installing it for the first time; isn't water extremely conductive!?? What if you screw up or a pipe breaks or something? Good luck, I guess.

Yes, very nervous!! One of the few parts that I ordered brand new. (Building this mostly from ebay) I read through alot of reviews before I decided on this. I found two or three out of like 50, that complained of a leak. With that few people I chalk it up as a few bad parts. Not enough to make it a design flaw, or not want to get it. Pretty much one of those, not every part can be perfect, type of thing. Hopefully I dont screw it up. Will be being extra cautious with install and general pc maintenance. It should give me the cooling power I need to push my Bulldozer 8120 up to about 4.7 GHz or so. Good luck with yours as well.


L.E.- Decided to go with a pair of 4GB ADATA 2000G Gaming Series Z 2000MHz sticks. I must say that I am glad that I did. Everything is running very nicely now!!! 🙂
