am3+ 970 boards should be compatible with ram up to 1866mhz so yes your ram should work.

Does the voltage of the RAM matter at all? Like is there a difference between 1.65v and 1.5v?

yes there is a difference (1.65v produce more heat and have been pre OC to get the ram to run at the speed and CAS) but almost all 900 series amd mobo support voltages from 1.35-1.65.
