Is this Ram upgrade worth it?

Actually, I believe the Via KT266 series and nForce 420D could be considered the first Dual Channel chipsets, but I could be wrong.

Here's a spin article THG did on the 420D way back in ole 01.

The 420D chipset in general wasn't an outstanding performer. Aside from it's superior integrated graphics, the rest of the chipset didn't keep up with the Via KT266A (though the 420D will trump the Via KT266, though). However, what it did do was get nVidia in the motherboard chipset game and strengthened their AMD relationship, which was already strong.

Apparently (according to the article) I was correct, the 420D did link the North and South bridges using AMD's Hypertransport bus.

When nVidia fired back with the nForce 2 series, the playing field changed forever.

Anyway, it's all old news that nobody except me cares about.
