I've fixed up a fan to cool my SLI on the side, the case doesn't accommodate it as standard but I used some zip ties and am about to put some foam so it gets set in place

I'm still doing some cable management, so don't fret about that,


Note: there is about a one inch gap between the GPU and the fan

As long as it doesn't touch, and you said it didn't, and it doesn't get in the way of the cables, there will be no problem. However try stress testing with the fan and without and compare the temps. It might not help at all.

Alright, cool, ill do the test now,hopefully my gpu's get better temps so I can OC them
