Is this set up compatible with 4k?

Hello, so I am thinking of buying a new monitor since I am having issues and I was looking to make the jump to 4k, the problem is that I am unsure of whether it will be compatible or not, here are my specs:

Asus Rampage IV Extreme
i7 3930k processor
Nvida Geforce GTX 970 (4gb)
16GB ram

I heard that Sandy Bridge-E is incompatible with Pcie 3.0 which I think I would need for a card that can properly handle the 4k gaming. Would Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 SLI run decent on a 4k monitor 3840 x 2160? If not, what would be the best option for me? I have seen QHD but wanted to get the best since 8k may come out in the near future.

No, micro stuttering is a non issue at uhd when I had my 970s. I used both cards to game in 3840x2160 with even the most demanding games like BF4, witcher 3 and shadow of mordor. It was an issue for 500 series of Nvidia gpus but has since been pretty much correct in my opinion.

But what about micro stuttering? Wouldn't there be a lot of that on 4k because it has to render much more pixels?
