Sorry for the strange title but I have recently decided to jump on the Steam OS bandwagon and was considering APU etc however I came to the realisation that I will be upgrading both my CPU and GPU next year Q4 2015 probably (Currently have i5 3450 and AMD 7870). Is buying a cheap 1155 Pentium, a nice SATA 600, PCIe3 mobo and 4GB of RAM a smart choice as by next year I would have turned a budget system on a dying socket (1155) into a very capable 1080p Steam Box. So all you really need to answer is "Is this stupid or smart thing" Keep in mind the system will be running around 180£ (I will be buying new RAM for my main RIG so I can use my MAIN Rig's RAM in that system) Thanks!

I kinda understand where you're coming from but can you elaborate? As getting £500 for PC components isn't so much of a struggle and I can always upgrade GPU/CPU first and then GPU/CPU down the line. However that's my twocents.

I was just thinking your HD 7870 is still a good card and deserves more time. E.g. look here, 38 fps in Battlefield 4 at 1080p on ultra is good.

Let's say you spend £250 on a new GPU now. That buys you a R9 280x or GTX 770 and you get 50% more fps.

If you spend the same £250 on a new GPU in Jan 2015 instead, you'll probably get 100% more fps.

It really depends on how you think. Do you want the smaller apple now or the bigger apple later...
