How much better would this be? I would be willing to save up more for a better one, but, want to know how much better it would be first

Significantly. The CPU can handle multi-threaded apps a lot better and is not known to bottleneck many high-end GPUs. And gaming aside, the CPU can definitely help with multi-tasking.

This is what I would recommend :

+ 6 Core AMD FX 6300
+ AMD 7950 which is a beast for gaming, way better than the Nvidia 660.
+ 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, more than enough
+ Asrock Extreme 4 board to support the good overclocking potential of the CPU.
+ Silverstone Strider Essential 80+ PSU. Good enough for this build. 500W
