Is this system still relevant for mid/high gaming?

Hello all,

I just wanted to know whether I can still play the latest games with good fps on medium to high settings. I play at a 1600x900 resolution.

The essentials of my rig are:
- Intel Core i3 (550) 3.2 GHz
- HIS HD 7770 iCooler (1 GB)
- Corsair Value Select 8GB (2GB X 4sticks) 1333 BUS DDR 3
- Intel DH55HC MOBO
- Seagate 500GB HDD
- Cooler Master Xtreme 600w PSU

Solution
Seems to be a fairly decent mid range system, especially as your resolution isn't too high.

Only problem you will have in some modern CPU heavy games like BF4 is the CPU is a dual core.

Could always swap that for a cheap i5 750 off eBay or similar.

Looks a reasonably balanced pc to me though overall but probably not up to playing everything maxed out.

Ahh thanks for the input. Funnily enough I recently finished BF4 on my old HD 4870 1 GB (which I sold) at high settings (albeit at DX 10.1) and since the 7770 is theoretically supposed to be 40-50% faster than a 4870, I should be doing okay.

I've found an Intel i5 750 for around 100 $ online. Is it worth the upgrade from an i3 550 since they're both first gen?

Always tricky trying to work out conversions in currency! Possibly worth it if you can sell the i3 to claw back some money?

Id say just wait till you find a game that seems CPU limited then make the decision. The 550 is one of the faster dual cores so you might not need to swap for what you play.

Edit:

I see you say you "finished" BF4, which I take it means single player? That's allot easier to run than the 64 player maps in multiplayer. Go try it and see how the i3 gets on!

Ahh yeah makes sense. I've never had any serious lagging issues that weren't related to GPU performance when I had my old 4870 and the games I played were beyond the playable settings. Haha and yeah I mean single player and since I don't play multi-player it doesnt really matter I guess. Thanks for the input!

Why did my post not post -.-

Me and you are running VERY similar systems at identical resolutions.

Single player, on medium-high is FINE. If you step into multiplayer... FORGET ABOUT IT! You WILL get 5-15 fps unless you drop everything to minimum.

BUT.... if you're ok with waiting, I would do that. We're at a strange crossroad on cpu's. Hold off IMO. If you're plkaying games to your satisfaction, wait till things get cheaper again.

Man as long as I can play Watch Dogs and GTA V (when it comes out) well with decent settings at my res ill be happy. Will probably upgrade my processor and mobo to 4th Gen models in a few months.
