Asus Z170 pro gaming

Asus Strix GTX 970
Corsair DDR4 16 GB 2400mhz
Corsair RM650

The thing is since I overshot my budget I am stuck with an old Dell Monitor(DELL IN2030M) for at least another 2 months. The max resolution which can be set on this is 1600x900. Was playing Witcher 3 and the game allowed me to set all settings at high. So I did and was playing. No lag or any sort of issues experienced. But the GPU temp was close to 70c. Now am wondering whether the GPU would continue to do its work even though the display cannot handle it(which would explain the high temp) or will the GPU slack off. and is this temperature normal even for gaming at high settings. The CPU temperature does not cross 50 C at any time.

Temperature in the High 60 (65-69) are perfectly normal for a 970, even if the temp was in the low-mid 70 it would be ok. I would begin to think giving it more air (adding more fans) if the temp reach 80 degres!!!

Thanks guys. Any suggestion for a good monitor which could handle gaming at high and maybe ultra settings. Budget around 200-250$.
I live in India so even a monitor you guys pick for 250 would cost me around 350 here :(
