is this temperature normal while doing absolutely nothing?

Hello guys, i just noticed that my cpu temp is jumping from 50 to 61 while i'm doing absolutely nothing on my pc. i would like to ask you if that's a normal temp while doing nothing, or should i do something to lower the temp? ill post a picture and my pc specs. i hope someone can help me a little bit and explain what's going on. thanks in advance.

cpu: AMD FX 8350 4.0 ghz
gpu: nvidia GTX 550 Ti ( about to buy MSI GTX 1060 6gb in few days )
mb: Asrock 970 extreme 3
8gb DDR3 ram
psu: Corsair cx 500
os: Windows 10

I wouldnt worry. Its likely some background process that momentarily is utilizing the CPU and thus causing the spike. The spike is still well within thermal limits.

Are you using the stock cooler? 50-60 degrees at idle is pretty standard with stock / low end cooling. So long as you're not going over like 80-85 degrees while under load, you're safe.

I'm pretty sure every one of you just read that wrong. Thermal Margin is how far away the current temperature is from the temperature at which the CPU overheats.

Let's say the CPU overheats at 60C. Let's say your current temperature is 25C. Your thermal margin would be 35C.

As long as the thermal margin is greater than 10C, you're doing super.

Yup. This is exactly why I don't recommend AOD unless you're an enthusiast. The accuracy is not necessary. A simply program like HWmonitor works fine and has a cleaner layout with all your system temps along with min/max values.

I disagree. You see, many AMD chips overheat at a lower temperature their Intel counterparts do. Not everybody knows this so I recommend using the AOD program.

For AMD FX CPUs, the temperature at which the CPU overheats is 62C on the core and 70C on the rest of the CPU. If either of these temperatures is exceeded, the computer will shut itself down to prevent a thermal catastrophe.

The 6 cores and 8 cores have two different safe temps. One is 72'c the other is 62'C. I do agree they have lower safe temps than Intel without a doubt.

I don't think the system shuts down in the event of CPU overheating, it throttles back. Immediate system shutdown on an FX build is usually a result of the CPU exceeding the TDP limit of the motherboard.

It throttles when it hits the aforementioned temperatures, but will shut down if temperatures continue to climb after throttling has reached minimum clock (I believe this is 1,000MHz in the case of the FX 8350 but I'm not certain).
