so I normally Post what I'm about to buy/upgrade just in case I'm making a bad choice.
for example: I could have bought a better CPU for the same price
that's why I'm making this Post

So here's my current Build I made a year ago
GPU: GTX 1050 OC Gigabyte
CPU: phantium 440
RAM: 8 GB
storage: 4 TB + 120 GB SSD (for system)
PSU: 430
mobo: H1101 Giygabyte
The budget is around 670 - 800 $
THE UPGRADE:-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GPU: GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600X
RAM: SAME
storage: SAME
PSU: EVGA 600
mobo: ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING

Notes: I might not Buy the CPU depending on whether the budget is enough

Priority: GPU > MOBO > PSU > CPU > (if I have enough I'll ad another 8 GB RAM)

assuming this is gaming PC and played at 1080p 60Hz, 1060 6GB is enough for you

Ryzen 5 2600x is of course a better choice than 1600x, but available mobo is X470 currently (B350 and X370 requires bios update to the latest to support 2600x)

or pick I5 8600k for gaming purpose only

I'm planning on pumping a 144 Hz monitor just for that extra smooth view and Future proof, not to mention the prices are going down

That Phantium:ange: aint gonna support a 1080. You will get 1050 level performance.
CPU should be your first priority.
Get the 2600 as you can make it perform like 2600x with a mild OC. Any b350 board will support it with BIOS updated. The latest batches are coming with BIOS updated.

LMAO. just realized the irony, 1080 with a Phantium. so you suggest CPU first? alright.
also, the board I chose is b350 so that should be covered
btw 2600 and 2600x are like 20$ difference, not worth OCing it when I can just pay that extra 20 or am I getting something wrong?

just make sure the B350 board does have its bios updated to the latest version, otherwise, you just making it hard for yourself

without OC knowledge, go with 2600x,
or if you know what to do in OC, go with 2600 and with aftermarket cooler will cost the same

does this have it updated? I checked a discussion on this website talking about this MotherBoard. they said it depends on your vender??

If the board you have chosen is from one of the latest batches, it should come with its BIOS updated by default.
If not, your vendor can do it, so you can talk to him about that.
In the unlikely scenario of both the above options not being applicable, you can get a Ryzen Boot Kit free from AMD for updating the BIOS... https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/2Gen-Ry...

Once again, the cooler that comes with 2600 is pretty good for mild OCing upto 2600x speed. So basically you can get the 2600x speeds without paying the extra. The boards these days have one click overclocking features embedded in them, but it is recommended to do it manually.
Alternatively you can get a 2600x as well if you dont want all that hassle.

Another point is, you have not mentioned the class of RAM. Make sure your current RAM is DDR4, as DDR3 will not work on that platform.
