Well I just bought a new graphics card it is Nvidia gtx 280 and when im installing it my brother yelled at me if i install the graphics card wrong the pc will burn actually explode, is it true? And oh yeah can you tell me how to install the GTX 280? (Step by step pls)
Thank you

Solution
1.Examine the GTX 280 graphics card and remove any protective plastic from the card. Typically, this is located on the interface connectors.

2.Power down your computer, turn the power supply off and remove the power cord from the back of the computer.

3.Open your case. The exact method for opening your case depends on the type of case. Generally, you'll either slide out a side panel or unscrew the top panel to gain access to the computer.

4.Disconnect the monitor from the video card by unscrewing both sides and pulling the connector gently.

5.Remove the power connector on the current video card. Unscrew then pull the current video card out of the case and set it aside.

6.Slide the GTX 280 into the PCI-E slot on the motherboard...
no t won't , it will just not power up and will not work

simply install it in your PCIE slot and it should be there is 8 and 6 pins connector from the power supply if so connect the 8 connectors to the 8 gpu pins and the 6 to the 6 if not then you need power cables that an go to normal power cable and give you the 8 that you can be connecte 8 pins of the card and another power to connect it to the 6 pin

well then yeah, the psu might make a loud bang noise and smoke (explode i guess) if you put a gtx 280 under load with a cheap rubbish 400w psu. what are the other specs on the psu? 12v amps? does it have one or two 12v rails? does it have a 6 and 8 pin pci power connector to actually plug the power into the card? if not then it wont work anyway,

7.Screw the mounting brackets in to secure the GTX 280.

8.Connect the power cable to the video card. Reconnect the power cable to your computer and turn it on. Verify that your computer recognizes the card before putting the case cover back on.
