i was gonna use my old 2 tb hd in my new build to save on money, plus the need to buy windows 7 again, and I wouldn't have to redownload any programs.

But now I read that even using a old hd you will need to buy windows again?!

is this true??? If so I might as well buy a new ssd instead :S

That depends, If it is a retail version, you can use it again. If it is an OEM version (esp if from an oem like Dell, HP, you can not use it & will have to buy a new copy. You SHOULD (if its a retail ver) do a fresh install, as it may not run on a new PC, & if it does, may have intermittent issues.
