I haven't done an upgrade for the last little while and looking to make one.
My current PC (link n.o 1) is good enough for what I need it to do but looking in to the future of gaming I feel like I have to upgrade soon too keep up. As I have a gtx 970 I don't find in too smart to upgrade to say a 1080 or 980ti, instead I'm looking to save up for the next 3 or so months and get a i7 4790k and a msi krait edition mbo. My current motherboard doesn't support SLI + I really hate it in general. My reason for going with a 4790k is mostly that there are really no better or about the same preforming cpu of the LGA 1155 type. Is this upgrade good/smart?

It depends; on a game like GTA V, you'll gain a few FPS (http://www.techspot.com/review/991-gta-5-pc-benchmarks/page6.html). Performance on games that are much less CPU bound like BF4, the performance will basically be the same. If you absolutely want to upgrade, then get an i7-6770K and DDR4 memory.

It's only a good idea if you go with skylake(i7 6700k). But, honestly, you don't need to upgrade until you also change your graphics card.
