Hi guys, I stream and game on a single PC. At the moment I have a ASUs b450-f gaming MB,RTX 4090,5800x, 32GB DDR4 Ram and a 1000W PSU. I would like to know if upgrading my CPU to a I9 13900K would be worth it or not ? I would have to obviously upgrade my MB and potentially RAM if I went the DDR5 route. Without ram I’m looking at around £999. Would the performance gain be worth the price ? Thanks

What motherboard and ram have you decided on paring the processor with? How are you cooling your existing processor? You should have a well ventilated case and at least a 360mm AIO to tame the heat on that Intel processor.

Out of curiosity, do you see your platform lag when you stream and game off the system? What sort of titles do you tax the system with and what platform do you stream with and what sort of settings do you have on your streaming platform? Make and model of your 1KW PSU and it's age?

MB is ASUS Z790 A gaming, my cooler is a NZXT x53 240mm AiO. The case is NZXT H710i. I get little stutters often when playing games and streaming at the same time. I play MW2,Sons of the forest and apex atm. I stream on twitch. With OBS Studio 1080p NVenc. Corsair HX1000 is my PSU also. It’s only 6 months old if that.

What resolution and Hz is your monitor?

Your only complaint is a little stutter when gaming and streaming? Are you ok spend £1k to resolve that? I will say I am not really into streaming but if considering spending £1k on an upgrade why not consider building a second pc dedicated to streaming only, from what I read that is the best setup.

1440p at 240htz. It’s more the fps considering I have a 4090 I feel the 5800x is holding me back a lot.

A 240 AIO is going to struggle with an i9 not to mention the i9 is pretty much a hose job for gaming when the i7 comes within a few FPS of it.

Would you suggest staying with Ryzen chips then ? I have seen some bad reviews of the recent chips which is why I was considering Intel. When I watch certain streamers that play warzone they are getting over 200fps on warzone and I’m only averaging 110. I have just assumed it was my CPU ?

If it’s the fps I see 2 options. You could spend roughly £300 on a 5800X3D which for gaming only is approximately an average of 20% increase in fps over a 5800X but it depends on the game. You could spend >£1k and get the 13900k which when using fast DDR5 is less than 10% faster than the 5800X3D. It’s a big premium for <10% and generally I would say you can’t feel differences that are under 30% apart from what the fps counter tells you.

Now this doesn’t factor in streaming, which might give the 13900k a bit more of a edge.

I use a 5800X3D for 1440p 240Hz and find it a great cpu but I am not streaming.
