Question Is this upgrade worth it?

So I want to upgrade my i5-7400 on my pc as i feel that during gaming it feels slow and just basic 1080p rendering is taking some time and was wondering if the i5-8600K would provide a massive upgrade or would the i7-8700 provide a better upgrade for cost?

If you wanted to upgrade to 8th Gen Intel CPUs you'd have to replace your motherboard as well, as the 7th Gen motherboards don't support 8th/9th gen, and I don't think the 8600k would give enough of a performance boost to justify for the cost of the CPU and the new Motherboard, as for the 8700 it could be an okay upgrade but I suggest waiting for Ryzen 3000 to get announced before upgrading, as you'll have to buy a different motherboard anyway and you might get better value going with the new AMD CPUs.

-8th gen do come with 2 extra cores but you looking at CPU+motherboard upgrade, 7th gen is not so old that you need an upgrade unless you make living using your PC or sitting on pot of gold.
-and in case you going with the upgrade, i suggest you to wait for the 10th gen intel and 3rd gen ryzen.
