hello everyone I was just wondering are ultra wide monitors worth getting solely for gaming? because I've heard not too many games support these resolutions being 2560 by 1080 + 3 440 by 1440. I'm just looking for someone with experience or someone who has just used one before. I currently have a Benq 1440p monitor and I was looking at the 34 inch LG 2560 by 1080 monitor and yes I am aware that it's a lower resolution but I'm just interested in ultra wide and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on an ultra wide 1440 p monitor

Solution
Subjective, no... Not nearly enough content available to justify buying an ultrawide monitor. Battlefront doesn't do a good job at that resolution, and neither does Fallout 4 I believe, these are two recent release as well. I'm sure there are a lot of other titles that do a horrible job at this aspect ratio as well, not necessarily the resolution alone, I'm talking about the whole 21:9 ratio.

Ultrawides are only useful for editing videos or the like. 16:9 is the ISO, and that won't change, as long as less than 1% of all gamers use one, if we use the stats provided by Steam. Infact, we can assume that the number given to us which is 0.06% for the ultrawide 3440x1440, is the average, while 1920x1080 is at a steady 34.90%.

And just...

And just incase you ask, Hollywood movies are shot in 21:9, which is cinescope, however, the masters are 1920x1080, with 1920x817 of the movie on the screen. The black bars you get on 16:9 monitors are there in the source, and would still be there on a 21:9, though this time instead of 2 black bars, there would be 4, one on each side. This is a common misconception that I just wanted to make sure you understood, incase you think there's a benefit for movies and or TV shows on a 21:9 monitor.

The manufacturers are pumping out ultrawides like there's no tomorrow. They're hoping for developers to make games designed around this aspect ratio, I'm assuming, since there is no other logical explanation. The problem is, TV manufacturers are those that are going to decide where the market is going. The broadcast standard (ISO) is 16:9. I'm not too sure what they're trying to achieve, over and over again, but it's not going to work...
