Not exactly complicated if you can follow instructions.
But, it is scary because it will seem like nothing is going on for a long time.
Do not interrupt the process or you will enter the complicated process of recovery.
Look at what is fixed in the updates that you do not have.
Do any fix issues that are impacting you?
If not, don't update.
I agree with @geofelt . Unless there is a SPECIFIC feature or fix that you NEED, don't update "just because it is there". You can actually make things worse if they are working well before the BIOS update.
