Is upgrading from a 1060 - 1070 worth the money?

Hey all! So i wanted to buy a 144hz monitor and i currently own a GTX 1060. I've read from numerous sites and forums that the GTX 1060 will not take advantage of the 144hz monitor at all. Would the investment of a 1070 and a 144hz monitor worth it?
12GB of ram i5-4690k non OC GTX 1060 6GB
I want to play some AAA games this year. I currently play WoW, CSGO, H1Z1, LoL, and OW.

I hate to say this but after running a 1070 w/a i7-2600 (+200mhz slight OC h77 mobo) and than upgrading to a new i7 7700k my old CPU was really holding the 1070 back. Although our CPU's are a bit different in age and design, they still score about the same in games so I'm going to say no on a 1070 or faster without a newer faster CPU.

Having a fast CPU/RAM combo is needed to keep FPS really high at 1080p with the 1070, there were moments where the i7-2600/1070 system produced the same FPS as the previous 780ti (about as fast as 1060) due to CPU bottleneck. Enter the i7 7700k and FPS are through the roof, not just min but also average, it's really nice being able to hit 100+FPS with little to no effort and amazing visuals.

Also I...
is it a performance upgrade? certainly.
is it worth 400 bucks? certainly not.

for the games you're currently playing it's easily sufficient
for AAA games, you'd need med-high settings, best tweak them individually
upgrading to a 1070 will improve performance but in no relation to the price

Also I haven't done it yet but I suspect the 780ti in the 7700k system would perform a lot better, especially in the min/low FPS which is so important for overall smoothness.
