Is upgrading from a GTX 960 2GB to a GTX 1060 worth it?

Solution

Yes and no. Let's say I have $269 for the best 1060 I can find. If I save another $100 I can afford the 1070. Now THAT would be worth it. What is on the plus side for the 1060 is the 6GB of VRAM. That is a HUGE PLUS. There will also be a pretty nice FPS boost. The 6GB helps with higher resolutions, textures and other settings. BUT is it worth $269 for those boosts? Not imo. If you can wait then I would wait until you can afford the 1070. And THEN I look to see what CPU you have. Stick with the 1060. The 8350 will hold the 1070 back WAY too much. You would lose money.

They have identical PSU requirements. 400W with a 6pin supplementary PCIe power cable. Your PSU should be fine with the 1060. There are some non-reference designs that may call for different connector(s). Make sure you notice the card's PSU reqs..

Is the 3GB 1060 upgrade worth it? 100% no.
