I am soon going to upgrade my Nvidia Geforce GT 730m 2gb card to a Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 4gb card. Will I see a change in performance, and can my computer handle it?

Current Setup:

CPU: Intel core i5-6600k @ 3.5Ghz
PSU: EVGA 600w 12V Power Supply
Case Fans: 2 Cooler Master fans
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT730m 2gb GDDR5
Motherboard: Gigabyte (Not sure of model)
Hard Drive: 1tb @ 7200rpm
Optical drive by LG
RAM: PNY 16gb 2133mhz

Solution
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the GT 730M is a mobile GPU (laptop), while the GT 730 is a PCIe GPU (desktop). Regardless, the GTX 970 would be a huge upgrade. At 1080p resolution, you could probably achieve a 45 FPS - 60 FPS performance. With that said, if you can wait another 1-2 months, I'd hold out for the 1070 Pascal replacement. If you can't wait then consider buying this to save a few dollars:

EVGA b-stock (factory refurbished) GTX 970

$259.99 + $16.80 s&h

Addendum: For my money, I'd wait, but either choice is valid. One other thing, although nothing is really known about the GTX 1070, I'm assuming that it'll exceed 60 FPS at 1080p resolution...

Ok. Thank you for the info. I use my computer souly for gaming and video editing. I want to be able to run games such as GTA, Forza Apex, Battlefield 1, and many others on max graphics, but my card I have now can't run them at their full potential. After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere tend to run a little slow with my card I have now aswell. I also want to upgrade to a 1920x1080 monitor but I can barely run 1600x900 sometimes.

The latter of the applications you mentioned are a bit more CPU intensive and resolution wise will depend on your GPU. Personally you can still go for the 970 most definitely.

In order to achieve this feat, and not experience screen tearing by utilizing v-sync, I suggest enabling Nvidia DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution). If you have a 144 Hz display then you can ignore my last piece of advice.

that's what I wanted to do, and wait for the price to drop.
