Is USB 3.0 fine?

I decided not to get a new motherboard because then, I'll only have enough money for an i5. I'm keeping my Gigabyte H110m board and getting an i7 7700(non-k). This board only has USB 3.0 and not 3.1. Is that fine? I never really use portable storage devices except some very, very occasional use of small USB flash drives.

An h110 motherboard is not compatible with a 7000 series cpu without updating the bios. usb 3.0 is fine. Only ssds and fast (and expensive) sd cards can benefit from a higher speed connection. Also why not just get ryzen still have 8 threads but be able to get a compatible motherboard for the ryzen cpu.

usb 3.1 is just a small upgrade but the disadvantage will be if more USB devices start using it and start using the newer USB-C type connection. if it happens though you can always get a PCI-E add on card down the road that will add some

I'm aware of that and I have the latest bios version. It does indeed support Kaby Lake
