Is Using WiFi Really That Bad?

A technician is going to come to my house and activate my Cable outlet on wednesday but until then, i cant use the internet on my new gaming PC
My plan is to buy a USB WiFi Dongle from best buy, use it for the next couple days until the technician comes and then I will return the dongle and hardwire the PC
So my question is, is using WiFi on A Gaming PC really as bad as people say
Keep in mind that my internet is probably a bit below average

Thanks

This is the dongle that I'm looking at

The real issue is your local environment and the 2 big things are: 1. the distance between the transmitter and the receiver and what objects are in between and what those objects are made of and 2. how many and how close are other peoples routers and what is between them and you. A high powered router that is 100metres away from you but has only 2 windows between you can still cause slow speeds even if you are only 2 metres away from your router.

Radio is an old technology which pretty much all manufactures get right, its those inconsiderate people who live near you lol.

My PC is about 25 Feet away from my router/modem and there are multiple walls in between

If they are brick/concrete walls forget about wireless, if they are plasterboard might be ok.

What about your neighbours? I had to get a dual band router because a guy across the road installed a router that just blew my connectivity speed even when I was inches from my my router because ( I assume) he installed it near his window which is directly opposite my window...

It's all plasterboard, again the dongle is a very temporary solution and my neighbours all have (seemingly) poor internet

From best to worst:

Ethernet
Powerline
WiFi

Wifi comes in at a distant 3rd. Used only if there is no other option, or if you are in the same room (but then you'd just use ethernet).

Again, WiFi is very temporary so would it be ok for a few days until wednesday

If your connection won't be hooked until Wednesday, what 'WiFi' are you planning on connecting to?

It's a kinda difficult situation to explain. My modem and router are in my parents room connected to their computer and We want to move the modem and router to my room but my cable outlet isn't activated so I have to wait until wednesday for the guy to come and activate it.

I also unfortunately don't have any extra ethernet ports so moving it is the only option(I think)

Needing extra ethernet ports equals buying a $20 switch to hang off that initial router.

My modem and router are in my parents room
Then it's not 'your' modem and router. It's your parents.

So you're getting a whole other second connection in the house, or just moving the current connection?

I'm just moving the current connection

How do switches work, If i hooked up a switch to my PC and my parents' computer, would I be able to use the internet on both of them at the same time

I would also have to route an ethernet cable through my attic and walls

ISP -> modem -> router -> switch -> devices
The router serves up multiple internal IP addresses. The switch mostly just provides more ports to connect to.

Ok, I think I'm just going to activate my Cable outlet and move the Router and Modem to my room
That way, I wouldn't have to buy a 75Foot long cable and route it through my house
What about the adapter that I chose, would it be ok for the next few days

Thanks

I'm just going to activate my Cable outlet

This is a foreign concept to me.

For a single family residence, already wired with coax, the modem + router does not care what coax wire it connects to.

From the street, the cable comes to the side of the house. From there, multiple lines leading to multiple places in the house.
The modem could theoretically connect to any coax that leads back to that main coax splitter box.

This completely depends on your house wiring.

Ok Here Goes

I want to hardwire my PC to the internet, but I don't want to route an Ethernet Cable through the wall and attic so the best decision is to move the modem and router from my Parents Room and From My parents Computer to my room and my PC

There is a cable outlet in each room that the modem plugs into
This outlet needs to be activated before it can be used
The outlet in my room is not activated like the one in my parents' room so I would get a technician to come to my house and activate it So I can move the Modem and Router to my room and plug the modem into my Cable Outlet in my room
I will have WiFi because the Modem and router are still in my parents room which is why I want to get a dongle so that I can have the Internet on My PC until the technician activates the Cable Outlet and then I will return the Dongle and move the Modem and Router to my room and to my PC

I'm doing this because it would be cheaper and easier than getting a switch and routing an Ethernet Cable through my walls and house

It Confuses Me A Bit As Well But This Is What Cogeco Said

Thanks

And then what will your parents do for an internet connection if you move the modem and router?

"This outlet needs to be activated before it can be used"
I don't get this part, but if that's what it is...

That adapter may be OK. But every house is different. It may work well, it may not.
