Question Is WD Purple or Red Better for Data Storage in a Home System?

I need a drive for a home computer (system and programs are on an SSD, and everything else will be on this drive, like music, photos, documents, etc.).

I have a WD Purple bought for a surveillance system, which I can exchange for a WD Red of the same capacity with my friend.

What I need the most is reliability, so that I minimize data loss risk. Performance goes after reliability for me.

Or should I buy WD Gold or Toshiba N300 series or something else in this case?

Please share your thoughts 😀.

Thank you!

Between Purple and Red, the Red.

But the WD Gold or Tosh would also work.

Overall, though...you minimize "data loss" by a good backup routine.
Any drive can die at any moment.
There is no substitute.

Eventually, ALL of them die. And sometimes at the most inopportune moment.
