I currently using prebuilt wearnes 8610L with i5 3470 processor, H61 chipset LGA 1155.
Now I'm interested upgrade to xeon e3 1270 v2, which is same perfomance to i7 3770 but cheaper.
There is no information on manufacturer site if this supports this xeon. From the few that I read, it must update the bios.
But in the web manufacturer there is no bios update option available.
On the motherboard itself is written H61M-P23 (G3), which if I browse exactly the same name with MSI brand model. I also read that MSI model supports xeon e3 1270 v2 with bios version 7680vI0.zip.
Can I use that bios or any better suggestions for me?

Thank you

I'm just curious, this 8610L might be the OEM of MSI, which might use the same bios version.
Few years ago I had a similar experience. The very old LGA 775 mobo, only supports ddr2 ram, then I just plug the last family 775 , e8400, without bios flash.
Before entering the bios, there was warning text show "unsupported procesor installed, the speed will be reduced which causes a decrease in performance"
then enter bios setup, without any changes, only enter f10, the computer successfully boot windows. I don't know how much it has decreased CPU performance, I didn't benchmark it.
From some that I read, some people say if e3 1270 v2 can work without problems as long as the motherboard supports i7, but some say if the H61 chipset needs to update the bios.
Maybe I will take this option, just install it without bios updates like my previous experience.
Thank you for the advice

So did it work? I have H61mlv3 motherboard too. my cpu support shows xeons e3 1240, e3 1245, e3 1275 but not e3 1245 v2. They are all lga1155 so I am confused if I should order e3 1240 v2 or not.
