Hello.
I bought a Sony Vaio laptop 4-5 years ago and it came with pre-built license copy of Windows 10. I created a Microsoft account on that account and used to use it to log into my Windows whenever I used to boot up my PC. I even upgraded it to Windows 10 last year.
Anyway, about 10 months ago, the laptop fell down and broke into pieces. After that I did not have a PC to use at all until a few days ago when I bought a new ASUS laptop. This laptop came with Endless OS (Linux) and it had no operating system. I told my elder brother to install Windows 10 64 bit into it while I was away. Guess what he did? He installed a pirated copy of Windows ( I DO NOT SUPPORT PIRATES IN ANY WAY!)
I did not know it until today when I updated it to anniversary edition and while I was doing so, he told me that its not a genuine copy.
So, my question is, if I log into my Microsoft account, would it make this a genuine copy of Windows?
Thank you!

OK, that changes things maybe, slightly.

Log on to your MS account, and look around for devices that are linked with that account.
If and only if you see your old system, then maybe you can transfer that license to your new laptop.
However...since it is a pirated install...you really, really need to do a full wipe and install of a valid OS. You have no idea what is in that pirated OS, or the many ways it has already stolen all...
Ah....no.

The OS from your old laptop is tied to that original laptop.
You need to purchase a new, valid, OS for your new laptop.

And 4-5 years ago with the Sony (2013-2012) was not preinstalled Win 10.
Win 10 was not released until summer 2015.

Oops, sorry... I meant Windows 8.. not 10.

It would if it was a retail windows key that you can move to any system you want, I dont think it will work with an OEM key like on your old laptop, they are not meant to be transferred to a different pc. But its worth logging into your old Microsoft account and see what happens, i'm not entirely sure it wont work.

The pirated OS says its not genuine? Are you sure its even pirated? Its not a very good pirated OS if windows knows its not genuine. It sounds to me like they just installed on OS and never put in a key. Can you have an OS that wont expire that is not genuine?

The pirate OS says its genuine but my brother says its not. I told him to install Windows into my computer.

Alright, sure.
