I have a Lenovo G505s laptop with a very slow hard disk. I am going to upgrade to a Samsung SSD. Unfortunately, Windows 8 was built in the computer and there is no hard copy.

My friend told me that Windows 8 is permanently in the computer so if I change my hard drive to SSD, it will automatically install fresh Windows 8 at startup.

Is this true?

vendor to save money now put the restore info on a partion on the hard drive. check with the laptop vendor to see if you can make a usb iso from the restore data. if not use windows media creation tool to make a bootable windows usb stick for the new ssd.

No, that is not correct.
The OS lives on the HDD or SSD
The license key may live in the BIOS. But that is not the OS.
