Is Z170 Maximus Hero worth it over the Z170-A?

Upgrade time?.. lets start with mobo...and it must be Asus n Intel. Is spending an extra $100 to move from entry to mid level overclocking mobo worth it? Down the road I will do a custom cpu + gpu water cooling loop, but for now a simple overclock (Cryorig H7).

Question: What do you gain when you move up to a mid tier mobo for quiet i5 gaming builds?

Goal is a quiet build that will perform well for 4 years, and a 1 GPU system(that will be upgraded every 2 years). Gonna carry over my GPU and monitor for now, hoping to sell rest of current build.

Solution
Motherboards with more phases in their power delivery systems tend to deliver more steady power even when hammered with a heavy power draw during extreme overclocking. It is because of this that I would recommend the Asus boards over any other brands. I would recommend the Z170-A unless you intend to overclock a 6700K to 9GHz (IDK if that's possible), it is only under absolutely extreme overclocking conditions that I would recommend the Maximus Hero.

Bottom line: stock speeds or less than 20% OC, Z170-A will be fine... Extreme OC of 20+%, get the Maximus Hero

I want decent overclock but don't need extreme. The things I do on the pc don't require the best of the best. This new build will be more aesthetics focused instead of performance/value build.

If your build is white Themed then you are better with Z170 A. But Maximus VIII Hero would be better if you are going to use high quality home theaters and headsets. Because it comes with SupremeFX sound which is better than Crystal Sound 3 present in Z170 A.
If you are not an audiophile type of guy then Z170 A is good enough for you. Rest depends on ur theme.

I don't need that high end of better sound components. I already got a DAC/amp for my headphones and my bookshelf speakers sound great. Thanks for the info though.

It is looking more like the Z170-A is the better choice.
