is zip/rar the best way of storing a file ?

sometimes, a broken mp4 could still play to somehow, only if you check carefully you will find out that it's corrupted at some point. It's even more true for images files like jpg, a broken jpg will probably still show, but with some area missing.

The problem is sometimes it's not easy to notice immediately that if a file is not intact

For a broken rar/zip, could we be notified immediately that it's corrupted when we execute it with winrar or 7-zip?

Or is it still possible that a zip/rar file is broken but the user is not notified until it's extracted to some percentage?
 
Solution
If the zip-file or folder is corrupted, you'll be notified immediately by whichever third-party archiving tool you are using to unzip it (eg WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRAR etc).
