Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.::: 1 - 3months

Budget Range: Max Budget $1000 [+/- $300] maybe a little more depending on income prior to purchase. But shoot for close or a little over $1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: (e.g.: Folding@Home, gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies)::: Gaming = Video/Photo Editing > Youtube > Surfing Net > Movies

Are you buying a monitor::: Maybe (Currently have an older Samsung T240 24" 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) 20k:1 Contrast 5ms that I'll be using until I can upgrade to something along the lines of dual 4k - Maybe? depends on pricing)

Parts to Upgrade: NONE

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (Win 10 Pro)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Doesn't matter as long as they are a trusted source of parts. Have used Newegg, Amazon, Ebay, Bhphotovideo and local stores in the past to source my parts based on reviews of products and their pricing.

Location: Gresham, Oregon, USA (Portland closest large city)

Parts Preferences: Intel & Nvidia but open to other options

Overclocking: Maybe, this doesn't really do it for me, but would like the option to be able to fully utilize upgraded memory, etc. and I know that some mobo's have limitations, so if stepping up to a better mobo series is what's needed then prefer.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, but depends on pricing at first, but would like option in future if only able to do one graphics card at purchase time.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1200 (Would like to upgrade to 24"+ [prefer 27"+], 4k, For Gaming with great color calibration/correction for video and photo editing, as well as multi port input for multiple machines, [prefer dual monitors if good pricing])

Additional Comments:
Looks: Sleeper, Not Flashy, No Lights
Functionality: No Water Cooling
Software:
---- Adobe CC Suite (Premiere/Photoshop/Lightroom mainly)
---- Office 365 (Full Suite)
---- Web/Software Dev Tools (Atom/Brackets, Dreamweaver, etc)
Games:
---- Battlefield 1
---- Potentially World of Warcraft (up in the air currently if I want to return)
---- Several Steam Games (Cities Skylines, The Forest, Rimworld, etc.)
---- Minecraft
---- GTA5
---- Basically I want to get back into PC Gaming as I haven't been able to over the last few years due to basically using my Macbook Pro for everything and didn't want to run Bootcamp Windows. Would like a dedicated PC for gaming.
Upgrade Path Preference:
---- Monitor/s > Memory > GFX card > CPU > Mobo > PSU

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current desktop was bleeding edge when purchased but is a dated machine and feel it's time to upgrade. I also have a 2014 Macbook Pro 15" (maxed options) and would like to start working on a larger sized monitor and due to the fact that a lot of games I'd like to play are PC only.

Title: ISO Gaming PC Build for 2017 - $1000 [+/- $300]

Gaming & Video/Photo Editing PC
  • - Budget: $1000 (+/- $300)
    - CPU: Intel > AMD (unless Ryzen is going to have good stable quality components in the next few months.)
    - Memory: 16-32gb (Upgradeable to 64gb+ in future)
    - Network: Built in Gigabit (Single or Dual) or upgraded Intel Gigabit NIC
    - Graphics: Thinking Nvidia over AMD/Radeon but unsure.
    - OS: Win10
    - HDD:

    • - Main: SSD 256gb-512gb
      - Storage 1: (Some Games/Most Apps): 1-2TB Black/10K
      - Storage 2: 2TB+ (Video / Large File Storage)
** Would like to utilize current monitor, which is a little older, until I can save up some money and/or I can find a dual monitor solution that is good quality with great performance at a reasonable price that fits within the build.

Personal Values in build:
  • - Quality & Longevity of components > Performance > Overclocking
    - Functional > Flashy and Fashionable
    - Good Air Flow + Cool Temps > Size/Shape of Case
    - Upgradeable (Don’t want to max out mono, or any other components, I want room to play)
    - Sleeper Look
    - No Lighting
    - No Water Cooling
    - Overclocking is not that important
Current Use:
  • - Games: (Not sure what I want to get into, but would like to play at Max or High Settings)
    • - Battlefield 1
      - Overwatch
      - GTA V
      - Diablo 3
      - World of Warcraft (More likely not going to get back into it, but might play a little)
      - Minecraft (here and there)
    - Basic/Intermediate level Twitch Streaming PC (720p+)
    - Photo/Video Editing - Adobe CC Products
    - This may turn into my General Use PC as well.
Future Upgrade-ability:
  • - 64gb+ Memory
    - SLI ( If worth it )
    - 4K+ Dual Monitor
    - More Storage
Brands I’ve had good luck with thus far.
- I have prefferred Intel (over AMD, although Ryzen products just coming out this week look nice, but unknown how they will hold up, let alone the pricing of other components .)
  • - EVGA
    - BFG
    - Coolermaster
    - Asus
Current PC (28k+ Hrs of use on system)
  • Case: Coolermaster HAF (Full Tower)
    Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI - (132-BL-E758-TR)
    CPU: Intel i7 920
    CPU Cooler: Coolermaster V8
PSU: BFG EX-1000 (1000watt Bronze Cert.)
    Graphics1: BFG Tech GTX275
    Graphics2: BFG Tech GTX275
    Memory: [12GB] 2x Corsair 6GB(3x2GB 1600mhz 8-8-8-24) (Model# TR3X6G1600C8D)
    • HDD1-2: 2x 300gb WD Velociraptor 10k RPM (28k+ Hrs)
      HDD3-4: 2x WD Green I think they are 1TB drives. (28k+ Hrs)

As always, thank you for helping me with this dilemma as I haven't looked at PC Components in years and have mainly been using a Macbook Pro 2014 maxed out for work/school/gaming that has served me pretty well, except now I'm wanting to get back into gaming and prefer to play on a larger display.

Ask any additional question that you may like to ask. I have searched on here at a few builds but just wasn't liking what I was seeing as many included flashy lighted cases and I'm not necessarily looking for flashy lighted systems. Just want something that is generic looking on the outside, but still very functional and capable of housing and cooling off the system really well.

Thank you for getting back to me.

well, Ryzen is looking very good, especially with photoshop/premiere which wants lots of cpu threads.

the 1700 costs the same as an i7-7700, but is 44% better in leaked Cinebench benchmarks, thanks to double the cores/threads.

this build gives you a 275GB M.2 SSD, a 1 TB HDD @7200RPM (10Ks are off the market now - and Hitachi is owned by Western Digital), and a 2 TB 5400 RPM Storage Drive.

The Rx 480 8GB is almost overkill for 1920x1080 gaming, and can handle most games at 1440p on high settings. (often Ultra with AA off)
