[SOLVED] Isolated wireless router from a factory switch

Currently working at a large factory with rather segregated work areas. In my work area we have no cellular service. As a workaround we've been talking about running an Ethernet switch off of an Ethernet cable from our area's larger switch and then setting up our own wireless router. The cable is currently running one of our workstations so I need to not disturb current LAN functions. Is this idea feasible?

Solution

Sure I think so. I'm sure there are limits on the length of ethernet cable. But if you already have a workstation there, it should work.

It depends on the policies of the company. Most companies prohibit personal IT equipment, because it is a security threat to the company network. They also prohibit rogue WIFI because it interferes with the company WIFI.

You need WRITTEN permission from fairly high management and corporate IT, IMO.
