[SOLVED] ISP blocking ports

Hello there, I will apologize in advance for lack of understanding, this is my first time having to work with routers/modems, so I'm not very knowledgeable.

I believe my ISP, WOW, is blocking some ports I want to open to play some video games on my PC. When they first came to install the internet, they provided an eero router. I currently have a Netgear CM500 modem. My question is, if I switch out the router for another (I believe I have a TP-Link AC1750 or similar on hand), will I be able to access my router gateway to port forward?

Thank you!

If they are actually blocking ports they would not do it with a router in your house they would do it on their network and switching the router would make no difference.

It is not likely they block ports. The ones commonly blocked are more to protect the stupid people who set things up wrong. Things like blocking microsoft file sharing ports which you should never us directly on the internet.

You can test pretty easy witnout buying anything. Plug you pc directly into the modem and then reboot the modem. The PC should then get the IP directly from the ISP. Since there is no router and no NAT all port should be open......and is mostly why it is not recommended to connect a pc directly to the internet. You may have to...

You may have to change the firewall setting in your pc becuase microsoft tries to be smart and limit access when it detect you are directly on the internet.
