Hello!

Okay everyone here is my issue. My friend has a Dell XPS M1710 Laptop. The laptop was given to him by a friend. His friends son removed his installation of windows 7 off this laptop and onto another PC leaving this PC with an invalid install of windows 7 Ultimate on the machine 32 bit. I went and bought windows 7 home premium 64 bit because he has room to expand his ram modules but hasn't done so yet.

The issue here is that the graphics card a Geforce Go 7950 GTX, the drivers from Dell's website for this laptop are 32 bit only. So i can't install them.

If i use the drivers from Nvidia's website the laptop blue screens.
If I use the drivers from Windows Update the laptop blue screens.

I found a website called laptopvideo2go.com that has customize graphic card drivers to get the most out of your card. I can't for the life of me figure out what I am supposed to do to install the driver properly. I've tried a few and I blue screen.
They haven't been very helpful on their forums.

I'm hoping someone here will have an idea what to do. I'm at a loss and I no longer have any ideas. I would hate to tell my friend his laptop is junk. Thanks for your time and for everything you guys do.

I'm seeing that there is a chipset limitation so you can't use more ram anyways. How much ram does it say is usable with 64 bit? You can't use 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit os and you can't find out how dell modified the driver. You might just be stuck with 32bit.

You cannot move an OS installation from a laptop to a desktop. That OEM OS install is tied to the laptop's motherboard.

Now that the legalese is out of the way, move the laptop's original OS back to it and use your new Windows 7 license for the desktop.

I can't. The laptop did not have its original operating system on it. Which was windows vista 32 bit. It had windows 7 ultimate which was purchased and moved off the laptop when it was given away. Am I able to download windows vista 32 bit somewhere? I have the serial number on the bottom of the lap top. Anyone know?

As for the AMD drivers its a geforce card...I can't do that?

Ok I installed the Vista 64 bit drivers for the graphics card and I blue screen with the error

nvlddmkm.sys

Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

stop 0x00000050

This happens with every driver I try to install.

Or for the last shot, I would try http://driver-update-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ one of those, I have one of them on the machine, which is not in service now, so can not say which one for sure, but it saved me a few times when I could not find drivers anywhere.
I have the one which gives you free driver update 1 or 2 drivers a day, if you pay, you get all automatic.
However, for this you need clean reinstall Windows and have to find Network card driver, the rest that program can do.

Edit. this is the free one https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php doesn't hurt to try.
