Good evening,
Before I start here is a list of the gear in question:
AMD FX-8300 95W
Asus M5A78L-lx motherboard
8GB of Patriot memory (working fine with the old cpu)
4GB stick of kingston ram used for testing purposes
300W power supply
Geforce GT 640 PCIe Vid card
So I just got this cpu today as an upgrade to an old Athlon II X2 260. Now ive been around pc's and doing the odd build here and there for 20 years but I'm out of ideas on this one. Basically, it posts fine (BIOS was updated) but I have to underclock it to get it to boot windows. When it does boot into windows, theres random hanging sometimes and it will eventually BSOD with a DATA_INPAGE_ERROR which would point to the hard drive or RAM. I swapped out the hard drive with another working one as well as tried that 4GB stick of ram. Nothing has solved the issue.
Everything works fine with the old CPU, I have adjusted timings on the ram, added a touch of voltage just to see if that work work etc but notta. Im looking for any idea's and im left wondering if maybe the PSU is too low to run it at 300W. Help!
Edit: I have run various memory tests, all passed. Seems to happen quicker when I fire up a game. It can either BSOD or itll just reboot without warning. Temps are fine.
