My samsung 850 evo ssd will not boot when plugged into the sata 3 port. I've tried it on two different motherboards and they both had the same issue.

On an intel motherboard i had an install of windows 7 working just fine in sata 2 mode however it would not work in sata 3.
On my current motherboard z77 extreme 6 it will boot into windows 10 and functions perfectly but only in sata 2 port not sata 3.

I tired reinstalling windows 10 with the drive plugged into sata 3 port. it did detect the drive however, it took much much longer than it took installing via sata 2, then when it had finally installed, it proceeded to fail to boot into windows. I had to reinstall windows 10 via sata 2 for it to work.

i had tried messing with hot plugging settings in the bios and different ports but nothing seemed to work. The sata 3 ports work just fine with my other seagate 2tb hard drive plugged into them.

When i tried with intel motherboard with windows 7 it also had linux with grub dual boot. however it failed to even boot into grub.

Both the ssd and the seagate hard drive are using this sata 3 cable i bought when i ordered both of them.

Solution
According to the specs, the board features:
- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by Intel® Z77,
- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by ASMedia ASM1061,
That's why not working in SATA 3. Have you tested SATA 4?
I'd say that it will not work there too.
Just tried switching the cable after seeing what some of the other reviews said about them.
After trying both cables, they wouldn't boot in a sata 3 port.
It would just cause the computer to freezes on the windows uefi boot.
I found another old sata 3 cable and that would boot in a sata 3 port.
So apparently the scan certified sata 3 cable don't work in a sata 3 port.
Despite being sold as sata 3 cables. :fou:
