Issue with word documents

Every time i want to open a word document of our server it takes ages to open. Then when i want to save the file it says that word is not responding. eventually it works but this happens every time. A colleague of mine has had a look and has said that he had to change my permissions on admin which then allows me to use it without a problem. The problem is that when i shut down my computer and restart it happens all over again.
